Our trainer is Donna Fournier. She provides experienced, skilled training in your home or while your pet comes to Lucky Dog for daycare or boarding. She does training for puppy behavior, therapy and service dogs, basic obedience and behavior modification for adult dogs. She can also test dogs for their Canine Good Citizen certification.
Donna believes building the relationship with your dog is essential to a happy, healthy, life-long friendship with your furry family member. She knows the communication is a two way street and through training you can learn mutual communication that will be beneficial to both you and your dog. Her training methods are safe, balanced, science-based, and effective for you and your dog. Teaching mutual communication negates the need for leash/collar based corrections and increases the bond with your dog. She believes teaching with fun games helps keep your dog excited for learning.

Donna Fournier is a member of the International Association of Canine Professionals (IACP) and Canine Good Citizen Evaluator for the AKC. She has a combined 32 years in the animal industry; 15 years working at local animal hospitals as a Veterinary Assistant, and 18 years as a dog trainer helping Metro Detroit dog owners.
From 2002 to 2010, Donna was one of the co-hosts for the Nationally Syndicated radio talk show, “Animal Talk”, guest speaker at seminars on puppy behavior and training across the US and Canada, wrote a weekly pet column for the Detroit Free Press, and trained future dog trainers. She was one of the contributing writers for the Association of Pet Dog Trainers book, Top Tips from Top Trainers (February 2010) and has been interviewed in Cesar Milan’s, Cesar’s Way, online magazine (May 2015).
In 2010, Donna began working with the non-profit organization, Stiggy’s Dogs providing the CGC evaluations for the organization. From 2010-2017, she was the Director of Training for Stiggy’s Dogs; creating the tailored training program for rescue dogs and veterans that is still utilized today, training new trainers, and monitoring the programs.
In 2013, Donna began working with others to create a Bill for Michigan to strengthen the American’s with Disabilities Act within the State and protect psychiatric service dogs and their handlers. The Bill passed unanimously in June, 2015. November 2015, Donna created and piloted the S.T.a.R Prison Training program for Stiggy’s Dogs in conjunction with Thumb Correctional Facility.
In 2017, Donna participated in training and placing two Therapy Dogs in two Michigan prisons, training the inmate Handlers for the dogs, and helped create a therapeutic platform for Hospice care in prisons utilizing Therapy Dogs. Also in 2017 Donna completed Duke University’s online course Dog Cognition and Emotion earning a certificate, University of Edinburgh online course Animal Behavior and Welfare and The Truth about Cats and Dogs earning a certificate, expanded her training into a new prison, and began consulting on two service dog and emotional support training programs.
In 2018, Donna began volunteering at Livingston County Animal Shelter to help train the adoptable dogs there, as well as began certification training to become a CTDI through Do More with Your Dog.
She is currently dog-mom to a rescue dog from Livingston County Animal Shelter named Stumpy. Donna works at Lucky Dog as a trainer and as a large dog playroom supervisor.
